What makes us different from other paramilitary programs (example: CAP, ROTC, etc) is that we are State Guard themed and incorporate a professional military structure and hierarchy with proper military fashioned customs and courtesies as well as unlike other State Guards/Defense Forces, we’re the only State Guard themed organization to allow active military to serve within our ranks.

The New Jersey State Guard Cadet Corps is important because it acts as a Ready Reserve that inspires volunteers for the New Jersey State Guard through military style education and training in case of reactivation.

The New Jersey State Guard Cadet Corps operates as a non-profit rather than a state government agency, the benefit to this is that it allows for active U.S. military service members to join, which is forbidden by U.S. law for paramilitaries that operate as a state government agency (making NJSG-CC the only State Guard/Defense Force to allow active U.S. military to join). Becoming a Commissioned Officer within the New Jersey State Guard Cadet Corps requires the individual to be a U.S. military service member, these are professional members that serve as the top leadership and ensure that Junior Member cadets are receiving the best education and training possible. These Commissioned Officers are assisted by the New Jersey State Guard Cadet Corps’ Warrant Officer auxiliary, which are conscripted members that are warranted with officer authority by HQ and are tasked with aiding in the education and training of cadets and requires that the individual has 4 years within the New Jersey State Guard Cadet Corps cadet program (NJSG-CC ROTC) or High School/College ROTC. The New Jersey State Guard Cadet Corps also maintains an active reserve component, these reservists are remote Senior Member civilians who aren’t able to attend OCS.
